Super cool hotel with an unforgettable vibe. The Liberty was once the Suffolk County Jail, and Marriott did an incredible job preserving the historic architecture while transforming it into a luxury stay. The jail aesthetic is still very much alive—in the best way possible. The location is unbeatable—right near the water and Beacon Hill, perfect for exploring Boston. Our room was spacious and well-appointed, with a big soaking tub, a standing shower, and a killer view of the city. Huge shoutout to the door staff—friendly, helpful, and just added to the overall experience. Highly recommend staying here for anyone looking for something unique, stylish, and well-located in Boston!
Overall, we were very happy with the Liberty. We checked in with Kasey and without even knowing it was our 15th anniversary she upgraded our room and sent champagne up later. The view we had of the city was amazing! I loved the location, near everything we wanted to see yet not IN it, so the area felt safe and quiet. The doormen were so helpful every morning with suggestions on where to go and how to get there. The lobby had great energy at night if you wanted to get a drink. My only gripe is the pillows stunk! I originally wrote it off as just bad luck but I've noticed this has been mentioned in other reviews. My husband even asked housekeeping the first night to change the pillows out (which they did) and they still stunk following. Liberty, I respectfully suggest getting new pillows or a new brand.
The rooms were really nice looking, and the food was fantastic. I don't like hotels that allow dogs, mostly because of the risk of fleas. However, the rooms don't have carpets, so it's not a significant risk there. Bed bugs are rampant in Boston, and this hotel is likely infested with them, as evidenced by the presence of bed bugs in room 1008 at least. Their mattresses are packed in enclosed mesh bags, so you can't tell if there are bugs when checking. However, the red bites, which appear in a straight line on various parts of my body, suggest bed bugs. For well over $700 (In this case, since it was busy in Boston) per night, I expected not to have bed bugs. It was a lot of work to clean all my stuff with high temp and alcohol to reduce the risk of unwanted bed bug guests on my return home. I'm happy to say that there's no outbreak at my house. I'd likely steer clear of this hotel next time, and really, Boston too. Its the only time I've had bed bugs in a hotel.
