The Loft

We just had a 4 day/3 night stay in the Shavings to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary & cannot fault it at all!! Lucie & Andrew were amazing hosts, from the cheerful welcome, the happy Hello whenever we saw them in the yard, the delicious fresh eggs laid by the farms chickens, to the friendly farewell before we left, they were great. The Shavings was the perfect little retreat, clean & tidy. So many little things that many places overlook. There were even Champagne flutes in the cupboard for some bubbly on our anniversary! We would definitely recommend a stay here to anyone. I think we'll definitely be back at some point in the not too distant future!!

I stayed at this “Certified Location” of the Caravan & Motorhome Club some years ago, before the current owners took it over. I really like this sort of place: it’s a field behind a working farm, but with electricity points and water in the field. The new owners are delightful and friendly. (I left my new fleece in the field on my departure and they posted it out to me - thank you Lucy) They have put in a new toilet and shower block, now located in the camping field. This was extremely clean and there was no shortage of hot water. The field isn’t huge, but I certainly didn’t find the pitches too small, as some people have commented. I really like Cowdale and I will go back. It’s peaceful and so close to so much wonderful countryside, and Buxton, which is just up the road.

We had a wonderful stay here. Upstairs was open plan diner, kitchen and lounge. The lounge area was huge, with a smaller room, if someone wanted to watch something different. The kitchen was well equipped. Downstairs were bedrooms and bathrooms, which suited the 11 of us very well. The owners were friendly and helpful and sold fresh eggs from their chickens. The location was off the beaten track but only 10 minutes (if that) from Buxton, with footpaths to walk through the neighbouring fields. This was a good spot to visit the local attractions, including Chatsworth house (30 minutes away), Matlock Bath (35 minutes away) and our longest journey to Drayton Manor (1 hour 30 minutes)
