This may have rooms but we stopped for a light lunch. We had looked at all the other restaurants in the area: bland, overpriced and uninspiring. So the King of Prussia got our patronage. We had mackerel and squid as mains. I’d describe them as a generous tapas size, nicely priced too (see menu photo). They were freshly cooked, squid not at all chewy and very tasty, the mackerel was beautifully cooked and the boiled egg and asparagus complemented it well. We added oysters as a bonus, haven’t had any for ages. They are the best we can remember having. Really clean, and creamy in texture. All coupled with a Cornish G&T. A very pleasant experience and we will certainly revisit next time we are in Fowey.

My first time lunching at the restaurant today. I had a low expectation having been to North Street Kitchen, Narla, Haverner and Appleton which I swore never return due to small portions (or extremely small portion)/average tasting food at unreasonable prices. I thought The King would be more or less the same but decided to give it a try nevertheless. I ordered two mains as I expected it would be very small portion at £14. I was really surprised that the mussels and cod that I ordered are not only fresh , tasty and portions are generous too at £14 each. The orders also came with free chips and bread. I am glad I have found the first restaurant that I like since I moved to Fowey two weeks ago. I heard soon they are going to serve big fish like Argoe in Newlyn which all sound very exciting to me. I recommend anybody visiting Fowey to give this restaurant a try. I just don’t think you can do any better value for money wise in Fowey. I did not write bad reviews for the restaurants I am not happy with in Fowey as I felt that Fowey might not be an easy place for small businesses but we need to support good local restaurants like The King.

We had the most delicious dinner at this hotel consisting of some gorgeous fish and meats. Great atmosphere and service as well as a superb view out to the harbour. We'll definitely be back on our next visit!
