The Merrill Hotel Muscatine a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Spent a couple nights here for a conference and overall it was a great experience [putting the conference center on the top floor rather than the first was a smart choice for this spot]. Can't say much about the hotel's services specifically as most of what I needed was taken care of through the conference registration; however, the room I had was the right size for a solo [or duo] traveler. I don't like downtown hotels with excessively sized rooms because, let's be honest, if you're booking a downtown riverfront hotel you're probably not going to be in the room all that much. The one thing that is probably awesome for most people is how shockingly good their noise attenuation was: The street, railroad, and river traffic noise were almost completely mitigated. I live in a noisy neighborhood and actually found that it was hard to get to sleep because of how quiet it was. My parents would love it, but I need my white noise! Also, they had plenty of free parking in a couple different adjacent lots, but their website could do a better job letting you know where that is and that you don't need to register your vehicle to park there...

My wife and I are completing a humanitarian missionary experience and are travelling east to west across the US to our home. We found the Merrill hotel on the Marriott reservation website and decided to take a short detour to Muscatine. What a positive choice that was. The Merrill Is it located immediately on the banks of the Mississippi with a river walk just outside of the hotel. The staff, upkeep, room, bed, and food at the restaurant were all exceptional. I would heartily recommend this hotel experience to any travelling couple which is seeking a more relaxed hotel stay, a break from the freeway, and is willing to take a few short detour from Interstate 80. This review is about my experience with the Mother’s Day Brunch. I called and spoke with Mollie, the restaurant manager 4 days before my reservation to inquire if I could add another person to my reservation of 4. She stated she would get back to me. She did not. I followed up with her a few days later and she stated she couldn’t add another person. On Sunday, I was amazed to find that the table my party was sat at could have easily accommodated at least 8 people comfortably. The entire conference room where the meal was eaten was only 3/4 full during the entire time we were there. Also, another table that arrived after us had last minute guests and the staff had no problem adding additional chairs to their already full table. I’m not sure if this is a lack of managerial strengths or spatial skills that Mollie has but in the restaurant world, more guests equal more money for the company. Adding one more person to this holiday celebration would have not caused any disruption at all.
