The Metropolitan Hotel Calabar

The metropolitan is a good place to go. The rooms are spacious. I was also surprised at the room rate, I thought it was considerable enough. They have a complimentary breakfast for guests. The food is well cooked. Some areas of improvement. I noticed for the two morning that I went for breakfast that the wherea the food is there, there was no staff attending. In one instance, there were two of them, but spent time engaging with another guest.. I feel the sense of customer service need to be heightened. Also if you are a vegetarian, make sure you tell them in advance, as there was no vegetarian option. You should expect some noise and busy movement as the hotel is popular for hosting events. There is a church that meets in one of the halls downstairs and also the location is just by the roadside.

This is a historical hotel that maintains it old charm while in need of maintenance. The prices do not reflect the quality of the offering, but the food in a place where food is almost a religion is an embarrassment. Breakfast at a world-class Transcorp managed hotel was supposed to be a buffet, but the selection was an embarrassment. The continental offering lacked most of the basics. I ended up in a sampling exercise of indomie and coconut rice, with baked beans and frankfurters in the name of sausages. Then there was goat meat, which when cut was chicken. I call it improvising the buffet. I ordered spanish omelet eggs and they came an hour. The eggs were soaked in oil and tasted like salt, had to just get sense and return it. I just had to give up...... someone who saw the pictures recommended i get some Flagyl.

The hotel needs a lot of upgrade and refurbishment. Standard is quite poor. Only upside is that they have very friendly staff and the room was large.
