The Mount Rooms

Positives -Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Location is pretty perfect as you can walk to the shops, cafes, tourist sites etc and it was very near to the train station. I had a standard double; excellent value. It was basic and a little outdated but it was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed; towels, bath/shower, hangers, tea coffee and a kettle. There is a bit of free parking out the front but can be tricky as it's on steep hill. The hotel is easy to find and has available street parking. A staff member is there 24/7 and easy access all day/night to the hotel. Negatives - The hotel is a little dated but it didn't detract from our stay at all. During our stay there was a boozie bingo event at the hotel which continued until midnight and the bar remained open until 1 am. Luckily we were out all evening however it was incredibly noisy before and when we returned with lots of drunk people around the property making a lot of noise. I think guests should be warned about this well in advance as most are there for a good nights sleep.

We stayed here for 1 night myself and my daughters and a friend in 2 rooms for a concert . The rooms were spacious and clean my only thought on the one room would be a chair in the room to sit and do makeup and hair . The carpark is small and we didn’t get a space after going out so be aware of the situation. .we did find a space on the road . The staff are friendly and helpful and we would return as was perfect base for Barry island the next day after our concert .

Recently stayed here, the staff are warm, welcoming and helpful. The rooms are a decent size (we had an upgraded double), very clean throughout. Although hallways could do with a good carpet clean, to be expected with footfall. Bathroom was ample; although a small design flaw in the shower glass not opening outward means you cannot access the bath taps and have to actually be in the bath, to turn taps on. Was fun to figure out 😬 The bed was very hard, I do think that this needs to be changed - I have read a few reviews saying the same thing so maybe something to look at changing. Worst nights sleep I think I’ve ever had, after a day of walking and touristy things a softer bed would be appreciated. The location though fantastic! Couldn’t be happier that the train station was 5 mins away. I would like to see an improvement in breakfast though. Instant coffee isn’t the one. A nice fresh pot of French press would have gone down a treat, option of juice would also be nice. Maybe even offer yogurts and pastries. I understand there isn’t a chef on site but didn’t enjoy the breakfast at all; as the butties were well over cooked and couldn’t really chew it. I feel the price could go up with improvements. Overall the mount rooms served a purpose but would like a few little extra things to make it comfortable. I’m sure we will return; as it’s a perfect location.
