THE ONE Grand Hotel da Póvoa by MHMB Hospitality

Lovely hotel, yes the rooms & beds are European style (smaller size, no queen beds…) but it is a great hotel, newer furnishings and very clean. A yummy (and lots of options) breakfast included and the staff are all very friendly! Easy access to the beach as well as pedestrian shopping areas. Povoa de Varzim is a lovely little city to visit. About 35 min north of Porto. A definite recommendation!

I am going to star off with my first impression of the place from the outside was, wow amazing location right on the Beach, however when I got to the inside of it, I was just disappointed by the appearance, checking in was easy and the very friendly and professional gentleman at the front desk! We had purchased a half board and when we went to eat at the restaurant I was so impressed because it was sushi! However I was asked 3 times by different staff members if I had purchased half board! I cleared it up with the gentleman in the reception and so we continued to order, however after a bit the manager comes and tells us we purchased half board but it doesn’t include sushi! When the restaurant supervisor already had told us she was going to honor the sushi because of the misunderstanding! The manager of the Hotel was very unprofessional, I felt attacked for a mistake the hotel should have owned up! Overall room was ok! I have stayed at 4 stars and 5 stars and this is not a 4 star for sure! If you’re looking for luxury this is not it!

Really disappointed as we arrived, discussed various room options, opted for sea view larger room (120 euro??) all great with young man on reception only to then be quite abruptly refused a room by lady (manageress?) as they could not look after two bicycles. OK, I know it s not their responsibility and they don't advertise storage for cycles. It just seemed crazy as such a large place had a "no" policy. Obviously some small, tall, narrow Hotels have no space which is understandable. The Grand Hotel Povoa must miss out on 1000's of euros across the year. We had 16 nights travel from Spain down to the Algarve no issues with cycles anywhere. Their decision we respect, two minutes away nearby Hotel no problem.
