We had a super time staying in one of the Shepherds huts in the garden. Well equipped room. Clean and comfortable. Staff couldnt be more friendly. 20 min easy walk into Hathersage. Food and drink were excellent and reasonably priced. Good location to explore the Peak District with good walks from the pub, and not far to other great locations.

I can't comment on the rooms as I've never stayed. I just popped in for dinner one night. The atmosphere and the food were average at best, the pie which sounded amazing (Beef and Root veg I believe ) was actually tasteless and very stodgy with a super hard crust, I need to exert a lot of force to cut through it! I had the croquettes as a start and again they looked really nice but seemed to lacking on taste, the poor lady on the bar seemed to be super busy which might explain why they're wasn't a check back to see how the food was. I was also given a random slice of cucumber with a dollop of white sauce...I didn't order it and I'm very confused what it was the server put it down and mumbled something I didn't understand before walking away.

I’m in this area regular. Stopped in for coffee Sunday morning after walking the dog. It was like they were preparing for a wake not Sunday dinner. Really unfriendly atmosphere. Felt unwelcome, no choice of where to sit, seated 2 feet from the bar. Drank my coffee and couldn’t wait to leave. If you’re spending a bomb on staying there and eating I guess they’d be really friendly. It’s not genuine.
