Had dinner with the wife for her birthday. The staff were absolute stars and she got a cute birthday card. The atmosphere is very cosy, the food was really good (also for vegetarians) and the service was exceptional. Will definitely go there when we visit cornwall again! Highly recommend

I wouldn’t usually remark things like this but I visited for Sunday roast yesterday (03/08/25) and I was so disappointed with the food. I visited on Father’s Day and the food was exceptional. My entire family loved the food! Which is why I was so keen to go back again, recommending it to a lot of people. When I visited yesterday; I had squid as a starter which was really average and heavy on the batter, then beef for main which was very overcooked. The veg overall wasn’t spectacular either. I was really annoyed and embarrassed that the consistency of the food wasn’t there, especially after I was so excited to go back and after recommending it to friends. The staff were friendly but I won’t be coming back in a rush when I paid for some pretty underwhelming food.

Disappointing End to an Otherwise Pleasant Stay We stayed for 3 nights at Plume of Feathers Mitchell. The reception team and cleaners were genuinely friendly and welcoming, and we really appreciated the complimentary room upgrade – a lovely touch. Unfortunately, there were a couple of issues that negatively impacted our experience. The hot water in the shower was only lukewarm, and the temperature fluctuated quite a bit, which made showering uncomfortable. On our final night, we decided to dine at the restaurant with our dog, and sadly, this is where things really fell apart. The pub area was quite stuffy, therefore, we asked if we could move our table outside, and the male restaurant manager rather curtly responded, “No, we do not serve food outside.” We then inquired about moving to another indoor dining area, and were told, “We do not allow dogs in those areas.” When I mentioned having seen another dog there during breakfast, his tone became even more dismissive: “We do not allow dogs other than in the pub area – it's as simple as that.” Rather than explaining calmly or offering any alternative, the conversation quickly escalated, with two additional staff members joining in – making us feel singled out and uncomfortable. At no point did anyone ask why we wanted to move or if there was anything they could do to assist. We fully understand and respect the venue's policies, but the manager's attitude came across as rude, blunt and completely lacking in empathy or basic hospitality. It's difficult to understand how someone with such poor communication and customer service skills holds a managerial role. This interaction sadly overshadowed what had otherwise been a nice stay. As others have mentioned in reviews, the restaurant service really lets the place down. Portion sizes are also small, which added to the overall disappointment. We had high hopes for our visit, but unfortunately, we left feeling let down – and won’t be returning.
