We stayed one night in a room in the part called the Manor at the Read House with our two children, ages 4 and 12. Everything was clean and all the employees were super friendly. The kids really enjoyed the indoor pool. The atmosphere in the main lobby was great, almost like stepping back in time. The location in downtown is also great, within walking distance of restaurants and other attractions. For parking, you can pay $28 per day for the valet parking or there is a parking garage right across the street that is $20 for 24 hours. The only reason this is a 4 star review instead of a 5 star review is that there were a lot of ants in our hotel room. The room was very clean and we only saw about 3 ants before we went to bed. We had left some food on the desk (it was packaged), but unbeknownst to us, one of the kids left an open pack of pop rocks out. In the morning, there were ants all over the desk. I know the building is really old and really big and it's probably a challenge to keep ants out. Also, if there has to bugs in a hotel room, ants are pretty much the best option.

A great place to stay, but valet is curbside so not the easiest to offload and there is no other option. The common areas were warm, uncomfortably in the game room and halls, but at least the room was cool, looked nice, was clean, and comfortable. Great place for an intimate getaway even if you aren't doing anything else in the city. Not the place to bring your kids. Not because its not a family friendly place, but a lot of people are likely staying to get a break from the kids.

It was perfectly adequate, but I feel I could have gotten a similar experience at a different hotel for much cheaper. The lobby is beautiful but that is about all it has going for it. I didn't get a super fancy room, to be fair, but I also expected the room to be nicer and more thoughtfully furnished based on the price. Also, I didn't expect to have to pay for parking for my stay. It wasn't mentioned before or after booking, but a surprised for when I arrived. Of course the staff are incredibly pleasant and hardworking, they clearly take pride in their jobs so that is always nice.
