The Reading Lake Hotel

Big rooms, clean, comfortable. Reasonably priced. Not exactly luxury but hardly a hovel either, just basic with all the essentials including a fridge. The balconies are a lovely addition. Could do with a bit of cash injected but still fine as it is. Have stayed a few times and would definitely stay again

A very mixed place to stay. Staff are very pleasant and helpful and doing the best with what they have to work with. Food was very good for the breakfast and evening meals taken. Service was smart and clean while respecting your space. However the hotel is very dated. Rooms are functional but lacking in extras. Chairs are thread bare on the coverings as is the carpet with holes visibly seen, in some places about the size 5 pound note. Also half the hotel is shut due to being lost in a fire some 18 months ago! The area and location to Reading was good and for the business I had there, however even with the service I would not be willing to stay here again until the facilities are updated. I will keep an eye out on the hotels fortunes as I will back in the area on more visits but staying elsewhere.

The room we got this time was nice and had a lounge as well as a bedroom. (we've stayed twice because the location is convenient for us ) The bed was hard and the whole hotel is falling apart and smells of damp. There are so few staff that they never answered the phone or emails we sent prior to our stay. We can see they have had problems, flood and fire. But the working parts of the hotel could offer a better guest experience
