With so many rural pubs struggling across the country, it was great to see the energy and enthusiasm on display here, led by the landlord, Ross. A fantastic publican, who makes time to talk and engage with his customers. They are truly doing something different here, and continually looking to improve their offering, which can only be applauded. We had a delicious evening meal, way above the quality we had expected. Thank you
Dropped in on the way back from Matlock to Ilam, looking for somewhere to eat. Couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome! Lovely little pub who managed to accommodate the 2 of us for an early evening meal, leaving the reserved table free for it's planned guests. Will served us during our visit, and he was super friendly, knowledgeable about the pub and the local area, and especially knowledgeable about the food produced at the pub. We opted for the steak and ale pie (spur of the moment decision) and it was yummy 😋 - thin crispy pastry, crushed peas, amazing gravy, and served with what I thought was too few chips (there's never enough 😀 ), but actually there was more than enough. Also went for the black forest dessert - again, superbly tasty. Would definitely recommend this place, and wouldn't hesitate to drop in next time we're passing that way. Oh, and don't forget the beautiful log fire !! 🔥
Lovely staff, average Sunday lunch. Positives: lovely staff, and the meat in Sunday lunch (pork loin) was delicious. Negatives: I'd have liked more than 3 pieces of veg (1 piece each of carrot, broccoli and parsnip). Roast potatoes tasted odd, and Yorkshire pudding was burnt. Gravy tasted lovely, but there wasn't enough (and the gravy boat provided had different gravy in it). Expected better for £21.
