The Retreat at Groenfontein No Self Catering

Groenfontein Retreat is a great example of how the grading system for guesthouses fails in its objective. The personnal welcoming and attention from owner Mari and Manageress Erika, coupled with the staff's support, just rounds-off the well maintained gardens, stylish rooms, great food and amenities. The swimming pool's location is superbly set on the foot of a hill, giving you the feeling of not being at a guesthouse, but in nature. If you are more adventurous, then the various walking trails with options to swim in a dam or rock pools in the river will make your day and stay. Groenfontein Retreat needs a 6-star grading and I would recommend it to all, even to my mother-in-law.

We had a recommendation to visit the retreat for a walk, when we were staying in the Valley recently. We had a wonderful hike for.a couple of hours up in the mountains behind the house and then on our return had a 5* breakfast. It is beautiful around there and the hospitality and service excellent.
