The Ritz Carlton Nikko

Arriving at the hotel on a misty afternoon added a serene touch to the journey. The drive through the winding Irohazaka road, with its 48 hairpin turns, was enveloped in a gentle drizzle, creating a tranquil atmosphere that set the tone for the stay.  Situated by the shores of Lake Chuzenji, the hotel offers breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. The proximity to cultural landmarks like the UNESCO World Heritage shrines and temples of Nikko enhances the experience, allowing for easy exploration of the area’s rich history.  The onsen facilities at the hotel are exceptional, featuring both indoor and open-air baths that draw mineral-rich waters from the renowned Yumoto Onsen. Guests can unwind in the cypress-scented sauna or enjoy the tranquil ambiance of the spa lounge.  Dining at the hotel is a delightful experience, with options ranging from traditional kaiseki multi-course dinners to Western-style dishes inspired by local ingredients. The bar also offers a selection of unique cocktails, such as the Kegon Falls, inspired by the nearby waterfall.   Overall, the hotel provides a harmonious blend of luxury, nature, and culture, making it an ideal retreat for those seeking relaxation and enrichment.

We loved our recent stay at Nikko RC! The staff was phenomenal and our suite was beautiful. The area and space offered such a necessary respite between Tokyo and Kyoto. We were able to do some beautiful hikes directly from the property and also ventured into town to see the nearby shrines and temples. A huge highlight was the bar which crafted amazing cocktails and we loved Leo the bartender because he was very passionate about his craft! We stayed 4 nights, are accustomed to high end hotels/dining, and felt the whole experience was very well executed.

The Ritz-Carlton Nikko truly lives up to the standard of a Michelin 2-Key hotel. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable—from valet parking to checkout. The check-in experience was especially pleasant, with complimentary tea and snacks to welcome us. A thoughtful touch was the “adventure booklet” provided for my son, which led him on a fun exploration around the hotel. After completing his little mission, he was rewarded with ice cream—a delightful experience for him. While the room rates are on the higher side, the accommodations were stunning and spacious. My son absolutely loved the room we stayed in. The hot spring was another highlight. The outdoor tub offered a serene view of the hotel garden. I didn’t need to bring anything with me—towels, lotion, and even drinking water were all provided.
