This was my first time actually staying overnight at The Rockaway Hotel & Spa after previously only visiting for a day pass at the pool — and wow, what an incredible experience! My wife and I had an amazing dinner at Margie’s, and I highly recommend the half rack Australian lamb chops — perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The pool vibe is always top-tier, with staff who are both accommodating and genuinely welcoming to ensure every guest has a great time. I’ve interacted with Tom numerous times, and he consistently goes above and beyond to create an amazing experience. A special thank you to General Manager Darren, who is always attentive, professional, and makes a point to interact warmly with every single guest. The Rockaway Hotel & Spa is a true NYC gem. I highly encourage more people to experience all the incredible amenities it offers — it’s a perfect mix of relaxation, great food, and first-class hospitality.
Great Sunday-Monday get away. Nice hotel 1-2 blocks from beach, easy safe walk. Yes, rooms are small and they need a small refrigerator. But rooms are clean, great ceiling to floor windows on bay side. Barn doors for bathroom didn't close completely. Pool is small, but was great for the grandchildren. Seating very limited. Chill vibe and poolside service good. Great staff all around. Front desk very helpful. Disappointed with with the 9:00 closure of restaurants on premises!! It's summer, 11pm should be the norm. One to two nights the max I would stay.
Having stayed at a variety of hotels across different locations and price points, I found that this property does offer a lot for the area (in comparison to another hotel) and is pleasant in some respects. However, the value for money just isn’t there. While some staff provided excellent service, others were far less helpful—especially when addressing issues or service failures. At times, I was left feeling overlooked or “forgotten.” Rooms were small, even for New York standards, not well appointed -- could use a basic kettle for tea or instant coffee which the room did not have. There is a coffee bar on the first floor hidden away, didn't realize till after we left. Could hear everything in the hallways. Not luxurious at all. We dined on-site, and while the food was decent, it was overpriced, arrived cold, and often required us to request basic items like a glass of water water or basic condiments (i.e. syrup for pancake or ketchup for potatoes). As much as I wanted to like this property, things just seemed to miss the mark. It tries to be something more, but failed to hit the basics. For the repeated service issues and lack of amenities make it difficult to recommend. This is not a four start property, a 3 start at best. Unfortunately, I won’t be staying here again or suggesting it to others. Was nice to be a few blocks from the beach, but suggest going further down long island instead of here.
