My husband and I recently spent four nights at the St Paul Hotel while attending the Minnesota Yacht Club music festival. The location was the initial draw as it was walking distance to the venue. We travel quite a bit and have stayed in many nice hotels and we both agreed that this was one of our favorites! The building itself is beautiful and our room was immaculate. Some of the best room service and house keeping we’ve experienced. The St Paul Grill is the onsite restaurant and the food and service was superb! A bit pricey but well worth it. There is also a lobby bar which has coffee and pastries in the mornings or you can have breakfast at the Drake which was also amazing. It’s rare that we leave a place with no complaints but it happened during this stay! Book a stay at the St Paul. You will not be disappointed!
My wife and I visit the Twin Cities many times a year as both our children live there. We have stayed in many, many hotels, looking at the visits as a chance to relax and unwind. Half the trip is to visit the kids, the other half to enjoy a weekend of "out on the town". The hope the hotels add to the experience. Not so much with the St Paul. The lobby and bar area are classy as all get out. The service was extremely solid. I even liked the location. All that said, the room itself was not worth the $200+/night we paid. The view we got was blah, the TV on a dresser to the side of the room made for uncomfortable viewing, and the bathroom left much to be desired. The water pressure was so egregious, it could take off skin. I fiddled with it in hopes of enjoying a long vacation shower, but to no avail. And with that amount of hot water pouring out, those cloth shower curtains fly up and onto your body as your showering. Gross. Grosser yet was the inability for the drain to keep up with the amount of water. Standing in used water just kinda...sucks. Everyone was pleasant and sweet, but the room lost the review.
**Editing to add that they apologized for the miscommunication and gave us a credit. It seems it was just one particular employee we had a bad experience with. Everything else was great and all of our other staff interactions were very friendly and professional. I changed the review. My wife and I are paying a high premium rate to stay here this weekend for big events in the area. The valet asked if we had any bags, we said yes, and he told us he had our bags and vehicle from here and we can go to the front desk. He gave us a ticket stub (which, admittedly, I did not look closely at since we were in a hurry) and we checked in. We did not go to our room, we left for our event. We came back in the evening, got in our room, and we had no bags. I called the front desk, and the person working sounded very annoyed immediately. I asked if our bags could be brought up. He said no, I need a luggage ticket, and I have to come down. Sure. So I grab our stub from earlier and notice it is for valet, not luggage. I get down to the front desk, explain what happened, and the guy sighs heavily and sarcastically said, "Wow, that's such a bizarre scenario." Our luggage never made it in, so they had to bring our vehicle up, and I grabbed all our bags and headed back in. After our day, we were hoping for something to eat, and called down to the restaurant that stopped serving at 11. It was about 10:50. (I know, I know, but that ordeal with the bags took about 20 minutes.) They had already closed down. We went to bed frustrated, and there was a small bug in the bed. Not a great first night. Again, we are paying a HIGH rate for our room. I expected better. The hotel itself and location are great.
