The Sanctuary @ Bay of Islands

The Sanctuary was absolutely wonderful—I just wish we’d had more time to enjoy it! From the moment we arrived, Glennis gave us such a warm welcome. She went above and beyond by giving us taxi info, recommending restaurants in Paihia (the closest town), and even driving us there herself. Talk about great service! The setup of the hotel is unique—you access it with a door code, and the individual rooms aren’t locked. The room itself was cozy, with a small shower (but amazing water pressure), and probably the best towels I’ve ever had in a hotel. The bathrobes and balcony were also nice touches. What really stood out were all the thoughtful details. The fridge in our room was stocked with excellent local wine and beer, and there was coffee and tea both in the room and in the breakfast area—all included. The infinity pool was gorgeous, and the views were absolutely breathtaking. Breakfast was the perfect way to start the day. Jagger, the owner, is amazing—she squeezed fresh orange juice, made some of the jams herself, and the spread of toast, yogurt, fruit, and granola really hit the spot. Everything about The Sanctuary felt personal and relaxed. If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway with stunning views and thoughtful touches, this is the place.

We stayed for 3 nights. Jagger was such a gracious quirky kind and welcoming person. It felt like hanging with a close friend rather than being in a hotel. The amenities were top notch and it was out of the way of the pahia crowds with easy access to the car ferry. Nice filling breakfast. World class views. Truly insane to wake up to the rain forest like that. Could not recommend more highly.

Amazing stay! My husband and I spend 4 days to celebrate our wedding anniversary in this property and every single day was a delight! Our host, Glennis and Dave is very accommodating and friendly! They recommended us with numerous things to do around town, restaurant that they love. The property is well maintained, room is heated as well as the towel rack. Ohh toilet floor is heated too which is amazing! Shampoo, body soap and conditioner is available. Bed is comfy and my husband asked for a firmer foam they have it upon request. Breakfast selection if pretty good, too! There’s few selection of different cereals, mixed nuts, canned and fresh fruits, coffee machine and tea selection is impressive! There’s also yogurt and Glennis offered us with toast with numerous selection, as well. India, the house cat is down for a pat or two. Overall, our stay is incredibly memorable! I hope we could see Glennis and Dave when we come back! Thanks guys!
