A real nostalgia visit for me. The my first visit was back in the 1960's - a lunch celebration for my birthday! The pub has been beautifully updated and certain features I thought I remembered are now gone but still lovely. Our food was delicious and just right.
We were very unfortunate to have arrived to be told that they were unable to accommodate us as the toilet wasn't working in our room. We were gutted as Neston seems lovely and the Ship was ideally located. The duty manager however was very helpful and although not our first choice of location they were able to find us accommodation within the Thornton Hall hotel a few miles inland, no further cost to us thankfully! If we were ever due to be in the area again we would still love to stay at the Ship Inn.
We stayed here to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and had high hopes for a special experience. Sadly, the stay didn’t quite match our expectations. The photos online made the rooms appear spacious and light with beautiful views across Wales, but our room was absolutely tiny, uncomfortably hot with no air conditioning, and looked out onto a brick wall. The bed was also quite small, which made things less comfortable than we’d hoped. In advance of our stay, I had requested an ice bucket and champagne glasses to be in the room on arrival. This had been confirmed by the hotel, but wasn’t provided. What made this more frustrating was that a relative had arranged for a gift voucher to be left in the room, which had been delivered, so it was clear the room had been accessed. It just felt like a missed opportunity to get a simple detail right. We also had dinner in the restaurant. The food was quite expensive but unfortunately didn’t live up to expectations. My husband asked for a well-done steak (£26) which arrived undercooked (actually bloody) and was also quite fatty. I had the linguine (£16.50), which was fine but quite bland and didn’t feel worth the price. It’s a real shame, as we were looking forward to a memorable stay for a special occasion. Overall it felt underwhelming and not the level of experience we were expecting for the price. We were disappointed sadly.
