Such a fantastic stop, the setting the history of the place. The fact that this hotel opens to the public in the way that it does is just great, such a treat to be able to experience the rustic charm, unique features and offerings available here without being an overnight bed and board guest. The grounds are huge and to have the river running around the property, it’s a real treat. the terrace and lawn are vast. The bar area has such an interesting history. The staff are fantastic, very knowledgeable of the history and area, and extremely accommodating, they really work hard. This place gets busy due to opening up to the general public and being in such a beautiful location. Couldn’t recommend this place more. Quite funny reading some of the previous reviews on here, some people don’t understand that this is actually a hotel rather than a pub. From my experience i don’t have anything bad to say. Service was fantastic, food was delicious, cost is very reasonable, location is super. Coffee was just divine.
Undoubtedly the place to meet up in this wonderful part of the Cotswolds. A beautifully appointed hotel. We only had a drink but the beer (lager) was served at room temperature which was hugely disappointing as the place had all the promise of a really good time, even if you were only passing by for a drink. We noticed all the other guests were drinking tea so perhaps we missed something.
Beautiful location but staff were hugely under pressure with really long wait times at the bar. Staff being stressed was completely understandable but one barman was extremely rude and obnoxious to most people trying to order drinks despite everyone waiting for nearly 30 minutes to get served. No glasses available to serve drinks when you reached the bar and fridges were off so the few drinks available were warm. One staff member referred to the service as mission impossible so perhaps you need to hire Tom Cruise behind the bar.
