The Surrey Hotel

Went there for dinner and a quiz night. Very well run, easy parking, excellent food at reasonable prices. My friend was staying there and says the rooms are the same high value. Special commendation to the lady at reception. I have mobility issues. She guided me to the elevator...AND...when I got out, she was waiting at the top of the stairs to direct me to the restaurant. How good is that?

Stayed here for 6 nights. It's great value for money. Not far from Auckland City. But the best thing about this place is the staff. They were all amazing and nothing was too much trouble.

Outside is very dated or quirky. Our room was surprisingly modern and light. Good bathroom, comfortable beds and good air conditioning. Rooms are not very soundproofed. Having a small indoor pool was great. Unfortunately as we were preparing for bed my wife spotted a cockroach on her bed which was rather off putting! As well cleaning was not complete - the shower glass had been wiped but not rinsed or buffed and was smeary. The floor was the same - you could write your name on it. Shame as the room was quite nice otherwise and the price was good.
