We decided to go to The Talbot for a last minute dinner. With pleasant enough weather we were able to sit outside and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere on the sunny terrace. We were served by Emma and Fin who did a great job. I chose the sea bass for main course which was absolutely faultless. My husband had fish and chips which he said was perfect. All in all a lovely evening.

We were really looking forward to celebrating our wedding anniversary at The Talbot. While the room looked nice at first glance there were things that let it down including uncomfortable bed, tiny pillows and tatty fixtures. Dinner was lovely, but breakfast was sub par. All these things were disappointing but what really left a bad taste was that on check out we charged an additional £10 for parking. Totally unacceptable after spending so much money for our stay. Would not recommend or return.

We recently stayed at the Talbot Inn in Ripley, Surrey, and sadly, it was a truly unpleasant experience from start to finish. Upon arrival, the receptionist’s welcome was frosty at best — unhelpful, unfriendly, and far from the warm greeting one hopes for when beginning a much-needed break. Unfortunately, things only went downhill from there. The room we were given was in an appalling state. It was clearly not cleaned to any acceptable standard — dusty surfaces, stained furniture, and worst of all, a bathroom that felt unhygienic and neglected. It was genuinely uncomfortable to use, and we found ourselves questioning whether it had been cleaned at all before our arrival. Breakfast was no redemption either. On both mornings, the dining area carpets were in a shocking state — visibly dirty and clearly not vacuumed for several days, if not longer. It’s hard to enjoy a meal while staring at accumulated debris beneath your feet. This was meant to be a relaxing two-day break, but instead, we left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and frankly, ripped off. I would strongly recommend avoiding this hotel. There are far better options nearby that offer cleanliness, hospitality, and basic standards of comfort — all of which the Talbot Inn sorely lacked. Shame on you, Talbot Inn — this is not how guests should be treated.
