Whilst the inn, including rooms look tired & in need of decorating, the friendliness, helpfulness & excellent service of all the staff we had contact with, along with the superb food (both at breakfast & in the evening (the menu is full of so many tempting choices ) & fabulous location (great walking/hiking country with some lovely scenic routes with panoramic & spectacular views starting directly from the inn) more than made up for this. Our room was clean & comfy, & had everything we needed. The view from our room window across to Simonside was beautiful! The tired appearance may actually contribute to the warm, relaxing feel this dog friendly inn has. The cost for our 3 night stay represented excellent value for money. Do we recommend it to others? Absolutely. Will we return? A definite YES! Thank you for making it such an enjoyable stay!

Awesome beer garden with lovely views. Dog friendly outside. Food was really nice - a very strong 4 stars. Lasagne was lovely! Kids portions were well sized and the chicken nuggets appeared to be breast and not processed.

Second time of visiting, this time we used the restaurant hoping for better service than the last time we were in the bar. There to celebrate our 46 th wedding anniversary with gift vouchers from our daughter. Seated in a almost empty room next to another larger table albeit with only a few people. Ordered food and drinks and a note on the menu did say as each dish is cooked fresh they would be a wait, not a problem. Then it became obvious as people arrived the large table was for a 90 th birthday. While not exceedingly noisy simply having that many people made conversation difficult, we did consider moving then the food arrived. Cannot fault that, vegetables and meat cooked to perfection. Slight criticism is gravy was added without being asked, we did expect it to come in a separate bowl ,my wife preferred no gravy. Finished the main course and asked for dessert menu. After reading that we sat back and waited. Several new arrivals were dealt with and then the food for the birthday party started to be served. Fair enough so we waited again, but after they were served some other new arrivals orders were taken. We waited some more then simply gave up,paid the bill and left. We won't be returning, the food simply does not make up for the service, last time we used the bar and it took two hours to get through a meal for four people. A real shame as the venue has so much to offer.
