The Vishuis

An absolutely fantastic place to stay in Hermanus! The accommodation consists of four charming little cottages, one of which is slightly larger, all connected by a beautifully designed and well-maintained courtyard. The attention to detail is remarkable, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. While self-catering is limited to a fridge, coffee machine, and kettle, this is hardly a drawback as Hermanus offers an abundance of excellent spots for breakfast and dining out. Fantastic accommodation in an excellent location in Hermanus. Marc is an exceptional host welcoming and provides lots of recommendations for your time in the area. The rooms are beautifully appointed. Excellent value for money too. We will certainly return here when next in Hermanus.

We spent two nights at the Vishuis, which consists of four separate houses. We stayed in a "Deluxe Double Room." The location is quite good, fairly close to the city center. There is no air conditioning, but we were provided with a private parking space on the driveway. The furnishings are very simple, and the décor takes some getting used to—but, of course, that’s a matter of personal taste. What really bothered us, however, was the musty and damp smell throughout the accommodation. There was a particularly strong odor of mold under the kitchen sink, and one of the exterior walls had visible damp spots with mold growth. We assume the issue is already known, as both an electric and a chemical dehumidifier were in place. In our opinion, the owner did not respond appropriately and simply claimed there was no mold. However, the presence of mold, especially under the sink, was quite obvious. Additionally, the dishes and the shower were not entirely clean—something we would usually overlook. In summary, due to the musty smell, the clear presence of mold, and the owner's lack of willingness to address these concerns, we cannot recommend this accommodation.
