Location is fantastic. Lobby is stylish. Service is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are large but a bit dated. There was no breakfast included for Marriot Platinum/Titanium members, but I was told at check in that some plan for breakfast was in the works. This area of town was really fantastic and changed my impression of Philadelphia. So many nice restaurants in the area. Curtis Institute of Music just across the street as well. Would stay here again.
The room felt outdated, with stained carpet and a generally worn-out appearance. The bathtub drains poorly, and the air conditioning blows directly onto the bed, making it very uncomfortable. We also found the shower gel already opened upon arrival, which raises concerns about cleanliness and attention to detail. Walls are extremely thin — you can hear everything from the neighboring rooms. The restaurant only opens at 8 PM, and the breakfast area isn’t even part of the hotel itself. That said, the staff were very friendly and polite, which was appreciated. This hotel needs a full refresh from top to bottom. Definitely not up to standard.
This hotel is experiencing some turnover and it shows. While the lobby is impressive, the rooms are quite worn, but adequate. Furniture showed visible fraying. Location is great for walking to some main touristy areas like Independence Hall, Love Park, and Reading Terminal Market. We had appetizers and drinks at the Steakhouse in the hotel one night and met the owner, who was great and friendly. Drinks and food- 👍🏽 What happened after we left was surreal, however. Two days after leaving, I had a mystery charge for over $300 from the hotel. I called to ask what it was for, and was disconnected three times by confused front desk attendants who answered the phone like they were new to customer service. I was sent to a voicemail where I couldn’t leave a message, and then on the next call no one answered and I was sent to an automated menu. When I finally spoke to a person, they could not easily explain the charge to me and asked to call me back by the end of the day. I got a call the following day with an apology for not getting back to me the previous day. He asked if I checked out of the hotel at the front desk before leaving, which we hadn’t. I haven’t done that in years, and there were not additional charges we had to settle on our prepaid trip. So, they charged us another night when we didn’t check out with the desk. Chris in accounting was very helpful in getting the charge reversed and the funds posted quickly, which is the reason I have to give service two stars instead of one. Overall, I just could not recommend this hotel right now. Hopefully they undergo some room renovations and staffing stability, because there are parts that have great potential.
