We had an amazing stay in the presidential suite with an adjoining room. We were in town for the Alabama Shakes concert. We were greeted at the front desk by Jessica who was fantastic. She helped with parking and made sure we relaxed after our travels with a beverage at the bar. Adi prepared some delicious refreshments while the finishing touches were being added in our room. Seth and Nnamdi greeted us and made sure we had plenty of amazing morsels to enjoy before and after the concert. The view from our room was breathtaking! Thank you for making our trip one for the books and going above and beyond to make it so memorable. I can't wait to plan a return trip for our next concert!
The Westin Birmingham – Service Shines, But the Room Design Needs Serious Work I recently stayed at The Westin Birmingham while attending a four-day conference at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex, and while the hotel delivered in a few key areas, it came up short where it counts most — in-room cleanliness and safety-conscious design. Let’s start with what they did right: Service: 5 stars without question. The staff was friendly, professional, and on point from the moment we arrived. Every interaction felt like they truly cared about the guest experience. Location: Another 5 stars. Being right next to the BJCC and within walking distance of Uptown’s restaurants made this a highly convenient place to stay. Now, the downsides: While the bed linens and towels were clean and sanitary, which I appreciated, the room furnishings weren’t up to par. There was a sticky substance on the headboard — I’m telling myself it was soda, but let’s be honest, it should not have been there at all. Details like that matter, especially at a property like Westin. The bathroom design was the biggest issue. There is no shower door, which means you get hit with a cold draft while showering. Annoying, yes — but that’s not the worst part. The light switch is placed directly next to the open shower, exposed to any stray water from the shower wand. As I rinsed off, I realized I had to carefully aim to avoid soaking the non-waterproof switch. That’s not just poor design — it raises real safety concerns. And about the bathroom door: you have to step in, close it behind you while standing at the sink, and only then can you access the toilet. I typically don’t turn the light on until I’m fully inside with the door closed, so I don’t wake my wife. In this setup, that means fumbling in the dark. The switch should remain inside the bathroom, but moved to a wall away from the shower — a simple but critical fix. Suggested improvements: Move the bathroom light switch away from the shower opening to a safer location on the inside wall. Reconfigure the door to open outward or rework the layout for better nighttime use. Add a proper shower door to improve comfort and safety. Improve housekeeping detail on room furnishings. Bottom line: The Westin Birmingham has fantastic staff and a great location, but the room design and cleanliness details need real attention. It has the potential to be a top-tier stay — it just isn’t quite there yet.
I chose this hotel based on the location and had a terrible experience. While it is located in a great spot, the hotel is lacking in customer service and cleanliness. The biggest issue was not the less than luxurious hotel, it was the fact that I was given access to a room that was already occupied. I was given keys to a room upon check in on the 8th floor. I carried my bags to the room and swiped my key. To my surprise, someone was sitting in the room, working on their laptop at the desk with headphones on. I was traveling alone and sent to a room with a man already in there. I promptly closed the door and went back down to the lobby. I was given a new room and a brief "I'm Sorry" for that and nothing else. As if walking into someone else's room was not bad enough, upon returning to my room after being out at a concert, I could not get into my safe. I called two times, asking for someone to come and open the safe. The person seemed quite bothered and told me she had called security. No one ever came. After waiting and trying to open the safe for 30 minutes, I put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door and went to bed at 11:45. I finally got the safe open the next morning to get my purse and laptop out and go home. I waited 15 minutes for my car from valet and gladly left.
