Better than expected, deserve a 2,8 star. Bathroom water is hot, kitchen is clean enough for me, except for the ovens, maybe the pots and kitchens tools getting old. The restaurant&bar atmosphere is quite good. The facilities are old without heating so with a cold weather you will need a coat.

Dirty bathrooms, obvious damp issues from the smell of the chalet, and zero clean cutlery or pots and pans. Very annoying arriving at one of the most expensive places to stay in the Catlins to find I have to clean the place myself. Frankly just not good enough, either clean properly or dramatically reduce prices. Regretfully the 2 star average is clearly earned. The one saving grace is the staff are very nice and helpful, I dislike giving bad reviews but I don't want people to spend hard earned money in somewhere sub-standard. One night is OK but anymore just simply isn't worth it

Over the years I've stayed here and its gone down hill fast in recent times. Basic base line things lacking shower/toilet block sub standard being dated does not mean it should be badly maintained and look unclean. Tried several things on menu and quality has dropped and obviouse quick heat (microwave) use. very obviouse with pull porked burger not heated evenly and cold center of meat. English muffin had that typical x microwave texture like cardboard . Rooms need more love. TV sat connection marginal but easily sorted by moving dish's away from obstructions. All the main concerns could be cheaply and quickly addressed with good management. I hope they read this and address what are important concerns as NZ deserves better.
