*Restaurant review* Food was absolutely delicious. My partner and I shared the camembert special for a starter which was very well prepared and came with plenty of bread relish, garlic and butter. We had the salmon and the pie of the day for our mains which were both enormous portions which we really appreciated. Very well cooked and seasoned. Shared the chocolate torte for dessert as we were stuffed after the generous portions which was also great quality. Service was timely and polite despite it being very busy. Strong recommendation.
Nice setting in this old coaching style pub restaurant but the strange they operate two meal sittings for Sunday lunch at 12noon and 2.30pm for the Carvery which is quite an old concept. Restaurant was full between 12-1pm but then emptied out until we left about 1.45pm as no new customers were book till 2.30pm so must the atmosphere a bit uncomfortable and quiet. Lots of business opportunities lost. Carvery was reasonable for the £26 per person. Plenty of parking but need to enter your reg on the reception iPad to get it free. Not sure I would rerun for the Sunday lunch as there are many other places with more atmosphere.
We've been meeting at The White Hart as a family now for many years. The staff and food is superb, our family group is big with at least 3 cars at a time. The last time we went however we got hit with £100 parking fine. We were all aware you now have to register your car on the screen inside the pub, we all did that and still got a letter from the independent parking enforcement company with a fine. This is where my view of the pub has changed. We contacted the pub to explain the situation, frankly expecting them to say terribly sorry we'll sort this out. It was the opposite response, your problem nothing to do with us, this was the manager by the way. A very different level of service and manners to what we had experienced while dinning in The White Hart. Why would anyone go to this pub now, even if you do register your car registration there's a good chance you'll still get a fine, as that's how these independent parking companies work, they're greedy. The pub will just say it's your problem, unless you're prepared for lots of phone calls and kicking up some all mighty fuss as we did. A great destination for ramblers sadly not those arriving by car anymore. Whoever thought employing this parking company was a good idea, certainly isn't going to end up entrepreneur of the year, that I'm sure.
