I did not actually stay here because this was a dinner date with my Wife. Have also had dinner here a couple of times before with friends and it’s fast becoming a favourite. Last time we (both) had the Lamb shank and it was gorgeous.

Only had a meal there as part of a large party. I had the chicken burger. The chicken was almost cremated and black which made it very dry and almost inedible. Nobody came round during the meal to check everything was okay! I know I should of complained but we were part of a pre wedding party and I didn't want a fuss. It looked a nice place but we didn't stay there.

After two members of our group had previously visited and enjoyed their experience here, today, unfortunately, was a complete letdown. We had booked a table for five and were seated in the restaurant, but when we asked for the sandwich menu, we were told we’d need to order and eat those at the bar instead. This was already a bit confusing, especially as we were dining in. To add to that, there was no gluten-free sandwich menu available (which seems quite surprising and outdated for 2025). We went to the bar to order our food after already getting drinks, only to then be told they had no bread. It’s unclear why this wasn’t mentioned when we first requested the sandwich menu. There was no immediate solution offered, and it was only after one of us suggested using the ciabattas which were available instead of sandwich bread that the staff agreed, a suggestion that really should have come from them. After waiting nearly an hour, we noticed other tables who arrived after us were receiving their food. When we asked for an update, we were told the chef was “just making” our order (a coincidence that didn’t feel very believable). Even then, we waited another 15 minutes before someone came to say the delay was due to a large party in the restaurant. However, we were the only group seated when we first arrived, so we’re fairly certain we ordered well before that table even appeared. When the food finally arrived, more than an hour after ordering, we were surprised to find bread on our plates after being told none was available. Had we been given that option, two of our group would have chosen brown bread over white that was served. The food itself was cold, several items were incorrect, and requests (such as removing pickle) were ignored. The “slow-cooked pulled beef” sandwich was not as described, instead, it seemed like cold cuts of leftover roast beef, with lots of fat. The chips with the cheese and pickle sandwich were pale and unappetising despite the rest of our chips being okay. All in all, it was a really disappointing experience. Mistakes happen, but what made it worse was the lack of communication, no apology, and no real effort to resolve the issues. With so many pubs closing, it’s a shame to see the lack of effort from those that remain open. On the way out a gentleman who appeared to be the manager, asked how the meal was and one of our group members explained what had happened and he offered up an email voucher. We are yet to see whether this will cover how much we spent, but I doubt it will be used. Edit: it’s been a few weeks and as expected we still haven’t received a voucher.
