Rooms are spacious, staff are friendly. However, no idea how come the elevator is so tiny and fits only 1 person with his luggage? Also staff are not flexible in the checkout time, they consider 12 pm a late check out AC thermostat didn't work properly and it was freezing, the design of the toilet is also very wired with the shower at the middle of the bathtub?! The location is very far from the Acropolis and the city center Not sure if I will be back in the same place
The Theoxenia is in a great location. The housekeeping was exceptional. The pool area is very nice. Breakfast is included. The downside is that it is very rundown. The rugs in common areas, the rooms, bedding and towels all need an upgrade. I would not stay here again unless it was updated.
Having stayed in other 'Palaces' I was prepared this would not be great, my booking was a necessity for a business trip. Indeed, this is a place that had zero investment since at least 2000. Not just the uncomfortable bed, the ability to hear the guest in the room next door breathe (or worse), the old furniture or the laughably outdated 'business centre' advising how to send a fax, but even the paper leaflets that could just be printed on the spot are stained, peeling wallpaper that could just be glued back on or silicone that could just be reapplied. The only investment is for the front of the hotel to appear majestic while everything inside is falling apart even if it's cheap and easy to fix them. What remains the question here is, how does this place retain a 5-star rating? Is it enough to tick the box of spa and pool even if they don't really work? Apparently for the Hellenic National Tourism Organisation, it is.
