Thon Hotel Polar

A decent city hotel with perfectly adequate, if slightly small, rooms. No views to speak of, sadly. Breakfast was fabulous! The hotel doesn't have a bar per se, although one can order a limites range of drinks at Reception. It is attached to a separate restaurant (Egon, Tromsø) where you can have an evening meal if you don't want to leave the area. The staff were lovely and helped escalate this hotel to a little gem.

I must have been given the worst room in the hotel, with a window looking into an interior air shaft next to loud ventilation ducts. The room was comfortably furnished, but too warm; opening the window made it noisy from the ducts. The staff were professional, breakfast was full of choice and of very good quality. I did enjoy the young seagull who seems to live outside the window.

We stayed for 1-1 nights on our way to north there and back. The hotel is in central location, the rooms are normal size, but wery few furniture if you want to pack out your clothes. They have large selection of warm and cold dishes at breakfast. But we were unpleasantly surprised, that our room was very cold, when we arrived. They switch completly off the heating panel, when the room is not occupied. Therefore we could not remove our coat in the room and had to use double blanket for the night. The room was so cold, that it could warm up only by morning. I do not think, that it is correct, to switch off the heating at winter time, when there are minus degrees outdoor.
