Thon Hotel Ålesund

Excellent hotel on waterfront. Very well managed hotel with helpful staff. We had a room with french windows opening towards pier. Hotel is very close to all the interesting places like pier for Gerianger Fjord Trip, shopping center , Bunpriss grocery store. Hotel has provided water filling, coffee/tea facility near the reception area which is of great help. Guest can have good choice of vegetarian food in breakfast.

We had a last minute 1 night stay here due to the coastal steamer being unable to dock at our port. Even though we arrived after 10.30pm the front desk staff were very helpful as we arrived on bicycles. The staff in the morning were excellent in helping us to arrange alternative transport. The room (323) was large, in fact, it was very long with narrow sections. More than enough space for two. There was a kettle to make a cup of tea. The shower was good and clean. The view was directly to the building opposite but if you turn your head you get a partial view of the water. The best view was from the breakfast room. The breakfast buffet had very good selection, including fresh pancakes. The only strange thing was the coffee machine. There was the standard filter coffee and a Nespresso machine that could make cappuccino but they only supplied decaf discs! Overall a very good hotel but it was expensive for one night. It was in June so the summer season, therefore you have to expect to pay a lot and not have a fabulous view like some of the other reviewers.

Very nice and clean hotel. Centrally located. Breakfast is very nice. I would not recommend the restaurant for dinner though.
