After days of exploring burial caves and ancient traditions, returning to the Toraja Misiliana Hotel feels like coming home to a perfect blend of comfort and culture. Strategically positioned between North Toraja and Tana Toraja, this haven serves as our ideal base for delving into the region's rich cultural tapestry. The hotel itself is a thoughtful marriage of international comfort and Torajan heritage. With 105 rooms and suites, it manages to capture the spirit of the highlands while providing modern amenities that make multi-day cultural exploration comfortable and convenient. Whether we're heading to ancient burial caves, traditional villages, or ceremonial grounds, the hotel's central location means we're never far from our next cultural discovery.
One of the most iconic and comfortable hotels in Toraja. Though the property is quite old, the atmosphere remains calm, natural, and refreshing—surrounded by trees, blooming fragrant orchids, and cool mountain air. The superior rooms are spacious, with verandas overlooking rice fields, offering peaceful nights accompanied by the soothing sounds of nature. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always welcoming guests with genuine smiles. Breakfast is generous, featuring a mix of local specialties and international options—fresh tropical fruits (including jackfruit), eggs, bread, and traditional dishes. A few suggestions for management that could enhance the guest experience: 1. Water pressure in the bathrooms is very low—not ideal for a four-star hotel. 2. Outdoor lighting at night is minimal; adding more would improve comfort and safety. 3. Room signage and directions could be clearer—some guests may find it confusing to locate their rooms. 4. The hotel is popular with international travelers, giving it a global feel. 5. Room interiors would benefit from an upgrade—modern touches would be welcome while still preserving the charming vintage ambiance. 6. Drinking water is provided via refillable jugs rather than bottled water, which may be a concern for some guests in terms of hygiene or convenience. Overall, this hotel remains highly recommended for those visiting Toraja—ideal for anyone seeking a serene, nature-filled stay with warm service and great location access to major cultural sites.
Aesthetically it is a beautiful place. But for this kind of hotel and price you would’t expect cats chasing mice in the space between the ceiling and the roof keeping us awake at night ( room 212/213 ). Also, kitchen service is slow, taking up to 1h40min to prepare a simple nasi goreng. The walls between the rooms are thin. You hear everything.
