Beautiful typically Spanish hotel in a beautiful setting. Spotlessly clean! Breakfast buffet had everything you’d need even for picky eaters. All staff friendly. Pool bar food was decent too for lunch. Didn’t eat in the hotel in the evening as so many lonely restaurants in the pueblo. Couldn’t fault it and would definitely go back.
Positives: Fantastic location – just a short walk to town, close to bus stops, and offering great views. Clean and spacious room – well-maintained and comfortable. Negatives: Unexpected charges – €3/day to use the room safe and extra fees for additional tea and coffee felt unnecessary. Breakfast – while adequate, it lacked variety and flavor. Staff interaction – although polite, the staff didn’t seem genuinely engaged. For example, check-out felt transactional with no inquiry about our stay.
I arrived at TRH Mijas at 10 PM and was met by tired, unwelcoming staff who made no effort to offer a pleasant check-in. From the start, I felt dismissed and unwelcome. The room I was given was completely unacceptable — it looked like a garage, with no natural light, a strong smell of mould, filthy and outdated furniture, and a horrible toilet. It was very clear that this was not the room initially allocated, but rather one they swapped me into upon my arrival. The reason for this switch became painfully clear: discrimination. I was treated differently, and I firmly believe it was racially motivated. When I asked for a different room, I was told the hotel was fully booked and this is what happens if you arrive at 10PM - like I’ve been punished. I offered to pay for an upgrade, as did my travel agent, but this was flatly refused. Instead, I was told I could take my things and leave if I didn’t like it — they were “happy to refund.” That kind of response says everything about how they value their guests. To make matters worse, Mr. Daniel at the front desk was incredibly disrespectful, addressing me with zero professionalism and a superiority complex, as though I were beneath him or simply not worth basic courtesy. He even lied to my travel agent, that I’ve told other guests not to check-in like that would be my problem at 10PM. If this is some kind of silent protest against tourism in Spain, then congratulations — message received loud and clear. I will never return to this hotel, and I strongly urge others to stay away. The attached photos speak for themselves. This experience was not just bad hospitality — it was offensive.
