We ended our visit here after staying on the other side of town for the first night. I prefer this side of town. While I appreciated that the other side was more walkable and closer to things, this side of town was quieter and more on the chill side. Luckily for us, there was always a parking spot just steps away from their front door. The checkin process was a breeze. They even gave us a complimentary drink voucher that we never got to claim as we spent the whole day outside. We also didn’t get to check out the roof. Another bummer. Here’s what made our stay stand out: The staff was 10/10 Every single person we came in contact had a smile on their face and always acknowledged us. Every question we had was answered to our satisfaction. Kudos Most important, that bed was the most comfortable I’ve ever slept on. I felt like it was hugging my whole person. I woke up the next morning so well rested.

We had an overall good experience during our 3 day stay. Our room was well maintained with a quality appointed bathroom. However, our assigned corner room had tradeoffs. Even though the room had blackout curtains, the room temperature got hotter than the selected setting. Then, if we opened the windows, the outside noise made this cooling effect undesirable. We also found the lamp only lighting made the room dark in the evening. The room amenities were limited—no provided tissue and no free water bottles. We found the hotel staff pleasant and helpful with one exception. The front desk misdirected us to an exchange office instead of an ATM. We located a nearby ATM by wandering around the area.

The hotel is not situated in the downtown area, a fact that may be a good thing, but that is for each person do decide. We felt safe in the surrounding area and had great meals at a nearby restaurant. This looks to be an early (think early 2000's) example of a "Boutique Hotel" where looks are everything and function is very low down on the priority list. However, from what we understand, the hotel is only a few years old. The rather small lobby is dark and artsy. There is a nice bar and a pool on the rooftop terrace, but no other common areas except for the onsite restaurant. The Hotel Montevideo must have spent a good deal of money on PR and marketing and we feel they do not live up to the hype and definitely not in running a hotel business. We wish we would have stayed at the Sofitel or another hotel that really knows what they are doing. We booked the "Residence" as it was the hotel's biggest room and we felt like splurging a bit. The suite we were given proved to be no bigger than the "Executive suite". In fact, it was the exact same size but instead of a coffee table, a kitchen unit and a dining table was set up in front of the sofa. Very strange arrangement and, in our opinion, a bit deceitful since the area was supposed to be 72 sqm but was the same as the Executive suite which was marketed as being 60 sqm. We asked to change to the Executive Suite and was told that it would come at an extra charge even though we had booked the most expensive category (???!!). Eventually, the check-in staff realized the absurdity of this and made the switch.
