TURIM Estrela do Vau Hotel

The hotel is very nice, staff are amazing, very helpful and friendly. They can arrange car rental, very good value, transport to the airport. We had only 2 negative points. As a couple we had a twin room and when we asked to be moved they offered another twin room, so we had to join the two beds and it was not the same as a double bed. Also the mattress are a bit to firm for us, boyh ended up with back pain and couldn't sleep properly for a couple of nights, towards the end of our stay. Overall a great place to stay and I would probably stay there again, if I go back to the same area.

Lovely hotel with a lovely pool too. The shell bar is was always empty during my stay in early June but began to get busy as we entered the second week of June. The breakfast is amazing and I would recommend to include it in your stay. The dinner is also nice but I would recommend you travel to Alvor for dinner. Location is right in the middle of alvor and portimão with and equal distance to both. It is 20 mins from slide and splash and a 30-40 minute walk to alvor and portimão.

The hotel is extremely noisy due to the architecture of the place. Any noise in the lobby is heard on every floor. You will hear the lifts going up and down all day and night. And anyone using the water is loud too. Our stay was ruined by a large booking of 150+ teenagers who would roam the hallway drinking and yelling. Whilst that isn’t the hotel’s fault, their lack of action to maintain peace was inexcusable. The first night they did this the hotel promised to call the police in case of a repeat. The second night we were woken at 1am by the same obnoxious kids the hotel didn’t do anything to stop them sitting making a racket in the lobby. The day time staff were excellent but the night time staff were just too young and inexperienced to be left in charge of a hotel. Our room didn’t have a phone so we had to walk down to the front desk for anything. The sliding wardrobe doors were hanging on for dear life and the woodwork was covered in old stains. Cleaners took our dirty towels and only replaced half the set on one day and then never got a full set for the rest of the visit. The bar is very pricey as was the restaurant. If you are fit and well, the walk into the area of Vau with more places to eat and drink is ok but it becomes a chore. Similarly any shop within walking distance closes very early so you to plan ahead if you want to cook in your apartment. The best thing about the hotel is the service staff, we had breakfast included and the friendly nature of the staff in the morning was lovely and felt very genuine (the only reason I gave a second star for service). But I wouldn’t stay here again because it is so hard to get a good night sleep and you can forget daytime napping because of all the noise.
