I was a bit worried after reading mixed reviews across different platforms, but I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Our room was quite spacious for three people, with two queen beds, a real entryway with a walk-in closet (great for luggage and clothes), and a recently renovated bathroom. Yes, the room is a bit dated, but it was very clean and the beds were super comfortable. We also had a beautiful view of New York and the Chrysler Building. We were on the 5th floor, which is a bit low, but rooms with two queen beds are only available on the lower levels. The location is absolutely perfect — the street is beautiful, surprisingly quiet, and has a true New York charm. Everything is nearby: we walked almost everywhere in Midtown, and Grand Central is just 5 minutes away. The neighborhood feels very safe and convenient. Overall, a great experience. Overall, a good experience. Would definitely go back there on further trips.
I am giving 4 stars because of the location, spacious room and a comfortable bed. The hotel seems to be being maybe remodeled slowly, some parts of the room and hallways are worn out but some are newer. The housekeeping was friendly and efficient (daily cleaning with no choice, there were no signs to put out for privacy which I find a little bit odd). However, like other reviewers said, I also had dusty corners and areas in the room, such as the wooden headboard or lampshades. I had read the reviews ahead of time so I came very prepared with all toiletries, but in my room I had shampoo, conditioner and soap in the bathroom. No hairdryer, which I asked at the reception for and the person helping me could not be sure if they had one. That too is a little strange unless they know they only have like couple of them or something?! The location is excellent, for those not familiar with Manhattan, strong suggestion as your in a safe and easy to access area. The room was very soundproof and the AC worked really well. The gym is really well-equipped but it was in the middle of being re-designed or something (see pic reference). Perhaps even a simple sign "excuse us we are renovating" or something along those lines would ease the customers mind, now it just seemed like it was someone's unfinished project. I want to also mention specifically that all staff was very friendly. Regarding room amenities; I had a safe, iron and ironing board in the room. And somewhat outdated empty minibar to fit your drinks or small snacks inside.
This is a weird place. Definitely not a 4 star hotel. The place is rundown, elevators beat up, and all the furniture in the rooms is worn and clearly old. A drawer was sticking out next to the bed and I pulled gently on it and it fell to the floor. No modern outlets have been put in. Most bewilderingly, my room came with no bar of hand soap, no tissues, none of the promised toiletries at all. I’ve been in hotels of all kinds and never seen this, and this hotel is classed as 4 stars. Front desk was bewildered by the request for some…said there should’ve been stuff there. Could not produce any. Clearly didn’t know where to look for it, looked half heartedly in his own desk drawers and a decorative cabinet across the lobby. I’m used to bringing shampoo with me but it never occurred to me to bring hand soap. Told me housekeeping would be up with it in a few minutes but no luck so far. The mini fridge clearly used to hold things for sale. It has a lock and racks for snacks and tiny bottles of booze. This might have been a higher end place years ago. Not so much now. My guess is not one dollar has been put into the rooms in at least 15 years. It is the biggest hotel room I’ve seen in NYC in quite a while. Creepily big really. Bathroom massively oversized as well. I could throw a party in here. So if size matters to you, not a bad choice. Very sorry I’m going to be here for 4 nights.
