Up Quinta dos Meireles

We had a wonderful experience at this family run hotel! It is a renovated Chateau that is extremely clean and modern. We were welcomed so warmly and kindly with great attention to detail.This hotel really takes the idea of service to great heights! The food was prepared by the mother of the family and was simply outstanding. We would highly recommend staying at the Quinta dos Meireles. Jill

During our recent Camino Portuguese journey, my family and I had the unexpected surprise of spending a night at the Quinta dos Meireles. The excellent accommodations, superior service with attention to detail and delicious food, coupled with the intimacy of a small family operated hotel, made this a highlight of our trip. In addition, the peaceful beauty of the environment was wonderful. The Meireles family have created a unique and lovely place for a respite on a journey or as a destination for any special occasion. I already gave this accommodation a review on booking! But I'd like to leave one here too, so you all know what happened during our stay... We booked this place mainly because of the travel distance to Porto, which was ultimately our go-to anyways and because of the old "good reviews" - classic - the check in was really painful and that has to be the very first sign of poor customer service. We ask several hours before arrival, whether we could check in sooner than expected, no answer during a 4 hour drive there... While standing at the gate we5 tried to contact the "emergency" phone number, no answer either, surprise. We therefore decided to drive in to the main door, after ringing the bell a young woman appeared with a long face. We explained that we wrote before and tried to call - she immediately checks her phone - and says "oh, you're right" even after that, she wouldn't let us check in earlier because the room wasn't cleaned (it was 2 pm already). We tried to cancel the booking but at that moment, she talked to someone in the back and came back saying the room is ready... Interesting... The room was big enough, breakfast was also good, but the service was just poor, maybe they did change owners. 2 stars because the food was good and the cleaning lady was friendlier than the receptionist. Make your choice! 😃 Maybe you have a better experience. Be safe out there people, and enjoy your holidays!
