I have recently returned from my holiday in Dubrovnik, Croatia, having stayed at Valamar Lacroma. The booked my holiday via a travel agent, so we were not V level guests. The hotel looks amazing, it is very clean, the views are great (especially the sunset into the sea which is fully visible from the hotels terrace and from the restaurant). Our room was clean and very spacious, the bed was comfortable and it was very quiet. The room facilities were a little bit dated, as I believe we were not accommodated in one of the recently refurbished and more modern rooms which I suppose are reserved for V level guests or those who pay more for a premium room. But this did not impact our overall experience. The hotel is perfectly located in a quiet, green area of the town, and there is a bus stop that takes you straight to Dubrovnik Old Town in approximately 20 minutes. We found this very convenient. The food selection at both breakfast and dinner was excellent and the food very tasty. There was variety every evening at dinner, some nights they served mussels, sea food, Italian style food etc, food quality is an important aspect for me, and I can’t fault the food at this hotel. There is access to a nearby beach that belongs to a sister hotel, part of the same group. The beach is within 5 min walk. You get free towels on the beach by showing your room card and if you want to rent sunbeds, these are available at half price, in June 2025 they were 25 Euro for 2 sunbeds - all day. I rarely want to return to a city or resort I’ve stayed at before, but I would gladly return here.
The hotel itself is located perfectly, with a lovely promenade nearby and lots of amenities are available. The hotel communal areas and restaurants are immaculate and extremely modern. However, some of the rooms are extremely dated and worn. We asked to change rooms and instantly received a newly renovated beautiful room. The first room in no shape or form represented the price which we paid and it’s a real shame they didn’t give us the renovated room straight away. Other than that the hotel and its facilities are fantastic especially with the V-level which is perhaps not worth its value but very luxurious. The staff in general were very friendly, perhaps there weren’t enough staff in the restaurants though. Overall the hotel is great with a few areas for improvement but it was a wonderful week and we loved Dubrovnik and felt very welcome and relaxed throughout.
Overpriced and Underwhelming Experience – Not Worth the 5-Star Rating We stayed at the Valamar Lacroma Dubrovnik Hotel for 3 nights (July 26–28) and unfortunately, our experience didn’t come close to the 5-star expectations set by the hotel’s marketing. Right from the start, our room had a major issue with the air conditioning. With temperatures soaring in Dubrovnik, this was not only disappointing but unacceptable. Despite reporting it immediately, we spent our first night in a stifling room. The next day, we were told the problem had been fixed, but the air conditioning still didn’t cool the room properly. We mentioned it several times during our stay, but no lasting solution was provided. Additionally, the refrigerator in the room was faulty and took an unreasonably long time to replace, adding to the discomfort. These issues together made the room far less comfortable than expected for a hotel of this supposed caliber. When we checked out, we requested some compensation for the significant inconvenience, but our request was rejected without so much as an apology. This lack of acknowledgment for our troubles was the final straw in a disappointing stay. Considering the high rates and the supposed 5-star service, we were left seriously underwhelmed. It’s frustrating when a hotel fails to deliver on its promises, especially when basic amenities like air conditioning and a working fridge are fundamental to the guest experience. We hope that management takes these concerns seriously and improves their service for future guests.
