I stayed in the Penthouse suite, which was good value for what it was. The parking was also reasonable for the city and safe, but those travelling with very low cars should be warned there is a big ramp before you get to the hotel. The room does not have a smart TV, the wellness area is small but pleasant. The biggest issue we had was the local metro station was shut making the journey into town much longer than the advertised 10 minutes. It was already closed when we booked but nobody advised us of this before our stay or even during check in. They helped by comping our car parking, but had we known about this issue we would not have booked.
Update: I am in contact with a front office manager, and I hope some positive changes can be made. I have tried writing an email to customer service two weeks ago and never received a response. So as per my email: Initially, I had decided not to share my feedback regarding my recent stay at Van der Valk hotel. However, after a conversation with a colleague who was considering booking Van der Valk Hotel Amstel for a staff event, I was reminded just how awful my experience was. It was under her guidance that I felt compelled to write this email. To be blunt, the customer service I received was atrocious. I have never experienced such a lack of care at any hotel. From the very first interaction until the end of my stay, your staff made me feel unwelcome and as though I was disturbing them whenever I had a query or needed assistance. As a solo Black woman, I could not ignore the sense that I was being treated differently because of my colour and age. This is unacceptable, especially considering I booked a Superior room on 31 May 2025 and paid to be there just like every other guest. Additionally, the spa area was noisy and not at all relaxing—hardly the tranquil experience I had hoped for. The only redeeming aspect of my stay was the late check-out, which I appreciated. I am sharing this feedback in the hope that you will address these issues and ensure that no other guest feels as uncomfortable or unwelcome as I did.
Extremely unpleasant welcome… Honestly, if that’s how you greet guests, maybe it’s time to consider a different profession. I had ordered the “Deluxe” package for my partner’s birthday — with balloons, chocolates, champagne… When you read “Deluxe,” you expect something elegant and refined — not carnival-style garlands and multicolored balloons (I removed the garland before my partner entered the room, so I don’t have a photo of it). To make matters worse, the birthday card had the wrong age written on it… It’s a real shame, because the room itself is beautiful, but the decoration doesn’t match the spirit of a romantic package at all. And as for the river view… where is it? That being said, the breakfast was perfect, and the location is great — just 2 minutes from the metro. To respond to you: The request was made more than three weeks in advance, and not at the last minute as you seem to suggest… And indeed, I arrived early because when I asked you to remove the party garland, you told me it wasn’t possible as the room was already ready and decorated (at 1:00 PM).
