One night stopover on the way to the ferry docks back to UK. Spacious room, very comfy bed and great night sleep. Arrived quite late after a long drive from Switzerland so no time for a meal but drinks in the bar (sat outside) were very pleasant and reasonably priced. There is a busy (and fast road) by the premises, but no impact on stay otherwise. First visit to a Van Der Valk hotel, but will certainly stay again in future. Many thanks to the helpful and friendly staff.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would rate this hotel 4 stars. It’s a very calm and peaceful place, perfect for relaxing. The location is great — there’s free parking and a bus stop nearby that takes you to the city in just 10 minutes. We stayed in a deluxe room with a beautiful view that wasn’t facing the highway, which was a big plus. The room was clean, quiet, and had everything we needed. The bed was also very comfortable, which made for a great night’s sleep. One minor issue was that the soap and shower gel dispensers were empty, which was a bit inconvenient. Aside from that, everything in the room was good. Breakfast was also very nice, with a good variety of options. The only thing we would suggest is offering some hot porridge — the granola was very hard to chew. Also, the older staff at breakfast didn’t seem very friendly, unlike the younger team who were more pleasant. The biggest disappointment was the front desk staff. When we checked in, they didn’t explain anything — just handed us the key, and we had to ask all the questions ourselves. We were also planning to extend our stay and asked at the reception three times in advance to help us check for available rooms. They told us someone would get back to us during the day, but no one called or messaged us. It felt like they just didn’t care, so we ended up moving to a different hotel, even though we would’ve liked to stay longer. One highlight was the delicious desserts in the restaurant — definitely worth trying!
Room: beds were very comfortable, but separate blankets would've been nicer than one big one. Room smelled stale. Bathtub was very nice! Breakfast: buffet breakfast was 10/10! For some reason we had unwelcomed feeling every morning because of one of the workers there. Location: remote from the city center. We had to use Uber/Bolt to move around. Beautiful surroundings though. Service: reception staff were polite, but didn't give us any info about the hotel for example breakfast times. All we wanted to know we need to ask. Also there maybe a pool in this hotel? Well we know nothing about at. Extra charges we needed to pay when checking in also left us feeling misleaded. Terrace of the hotel was beautiful and comfy looking.
