Van Der Valk Hotel Houten Utrecht

The hotel is currently being renovated, and the decor is lovely and inviting. The rooms are spacious, bright, and well-equipped (huge TV, many bathroom amenities, clothes iron, etc.), but they’re rather chilly. Even though the thermostat can be set to 24°C, the room never actually reaches a comfortable temperature. Cleaning leaves a lot to be desired: dust on the furniture, leftovers from previous guests, bins not emptied... The restaurant is large, beautiful, and the food is excellent, but, just like the rooms, it’s too cold to enjoy dinner. Breakfast is great, though. There’s not much to do nearby apart from taking a stroll. Bus 47, which connects Houten to Utrecht, stops right outside, but the service ends mid evening.

I usually got good impression about Van Der Valk, but this time, I saw lipstick stain on the cup when I just entered the room (I have always look around the room before I use it). Besides that, the pillows just too big, made my neck pain in the morning. What pleasant was the roasted duck, I ordered, tasted so good.

Booked the Hollywood suite for 450 euro's a night. The room was really dirty, not something that you would expect for 450 euros a night. Stains everywhere. Attached are a few pictures but literally every wall was covered in stains or big yellow / brown spots. Jacuzzi was really dirty. After filling the jacuzzi and turning the bubbles on the water got dirty. Turned the bubbles off to see if it was the oxygen in the water but it turned out to be a layer of black dust. Not really worth the price.
