Probably the best hotel I’ve stayed at, the whole team has impeccable service and were very kind and accommodating. The hotel and rooms are stunning and fully equipped for a lovely getaway. It’s located right outside Maastricht, but feels like lovely and remote. Loved everything and once the spa opens it will be even better!
We stayed at Van Oys Maastricht retreat for one night. Eijsden is a quiet little town but with an excellent proximity to Maastricht, Liège, Valkenburg and Aachen. The hotel is very luxurious and beautifully restored to its former glory in a short period of time. Lots of private parking space (free of charge), compliments to the amazing staff who were professional and hospitable. We were welcomed and were offered drinks and got a nice pastry. It took a bit long before we were escorted to our rooms. The rooms were modern, very clean, beautiful interior, good air conditioning, mini bar, separate powder room, excellent hair dryer. There is a nice tranquil garden and breakfast was really good. There were some letdowns, first of all the rooms are not sound proof. I could clearly hear the upstairs neighbors walking. Could hear people walking up and down the stairs in the hallway. Could hear a dog in one of the other rooms bark for almost 4 hours. So bring earplugs if you wish to sleep. No options for pillows and the pillow was not comfortable. The mini fridge began to make strange loud noises and to fix it I opened and closed it which fixed it for a while. All products from the soap, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner were from their own brand which you will like if you LOVE cinnamon, the smell was way too strong and overpowering. I had expected some toiletries like a shower cap, that might be a suggestion for the future. The complimentary chocolates were nice. All and all a beautiful hotel with great service and nice rooms but should have installed better sound proof floors and wall insulation because that was a major letdown.
My husband and I stayed at Van Oys in June with high expectations, especially since it’s part of the Leading Hotels of the World, a label that has never disappointed us in the past. Unfortunately, this experience fell short. The hotel had only recently opened, and it showed. The spa was still closed, the garden unfinished, and there was ongoing construction around the premises, which affected the overall atmosphere. The room, while nicely designed, was surprisingly small for a countryside property, and although we were told we had received an upgrade to a room with a “better view,” it left us wondering what our original room would have looked like. The location also wasn’t ideal - situated next to a somewhat unremarkable village, it felt disconnected from the charm of nearby Maastricht. We were particularly surprised by the €25 valet fee to park a car just a few steps away in an open lot. At this price point, that really should be included. That said, the staff were exceptionally kind and genuinely eager to provide a good experience, which we greatly appreciated. The restaurant also deserves praise. The food was very good, even if the pricing felt ambitious for a venue without a Michelin star (yet). All in all, we left feeling that the hotel may become a great destination in the future, but it’s simply not there yet. We hope they find their footing in the months to come.
