It's far from a five-star. I have many qualms, but the main one is that it is deteriorating and understaffed and not priced according to what it is. The breakfast staff, cleaning crew, and reception staff were amazing and did their best, which is why I marked 4/5. One has to consider that it does not follow the typical 2:1 ratio staff one would see at five star hotels. Overall, it was down, and I would not visit again. The hotel is supposedly not pet friendly, yet the owner paraded their two dogs in the lobby. The hotel is supposedly kid friendly, yet a different owner chastised children (4 years old) for being "too loud" in a common area. The tiling on the pool is literally falling off. There's no wait staff in the pool area, so it's self-service, as one would expect at a 5-star hotel (yes, that's irony). No bellhop, no valet. A temperamental toilet flusher and a bathroom that smells funky in the evenings. The staff were the only reason I actually bothered rating. Normally, I'd say it's 2/5, but the staff really were great.

We visited Varos Village Hotel in Limnos recently — first impressions? It looked like it was auditioning for a zombie movie set: closed down and a bit derelict. Still, we stayed optimistic and headed to the pool and bar area for a drink, hoping to scope it out for a future visit with a big group. We only had drinks, but when we asked about using the pool, we were told it would cost €50 (about $85 AUD). At that price, I was expecting at least a private butler and a dolphin show! Needless to say, we politely declined and left. We’re on the island for a month, happily spending money eating out for lunch and dinner every day, but this is one place we won’t be coming back to. Maybe consider lowering your pool rate — you'd probably attract more guests (and fewer shocked faces). I’m sure the hotel is fine if you’re staying there, but as a visitor just popping in for food and drinks, it was a real letdown.
