Viang Luang Resort is the nicest place to stay in Chiang Mai. The location is excellent, being located in the heart of old town but tucked away on a side street, you wont get any traffic noise. At the end of the street is a beautiful temple, as well as a 7-eleven with an ATM. If you stay on a Sunday evening, the Sunday night walking markets join up to this street so you are literally in the heart of it. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean. There was a nice balcony with chairs to relax on. The bed was very large and comfortable. In room amenities include a small mini-fridge and coffee making equipment. The bathroom was spacious, and through the water pressure for the shower was a little weak, it was still perfectly functional. The highlight of the property is the pool which was a welcome relief to the heat of Thailand, with pool towels available to use from reception. Gardens throughout were lush and tropical. Breakfast started from 7am and was standard buffet style with Thai and Western options available. You will be offered a plate of eggs cooked how you prefer. Staff were friendly and were kind enough to offer a takeaway lunch box when I mentioned that I will be checking out early before breakfast starts.
This was a beautiful resort. It's the perfect size. We had a quiet room near the pool and breakfast area. We loved breakfast was included each morning and it's not just little pastries it's a full on breakfast. The pool is relaxing and for anyone with a car there is a big parking lot just a little down the road from it (still in the alley) or you can park right in front. Thank you for making our experience during Songkran easy and stress free.
The hotel is old fashion but still beautiful, the rooms was clean and spacious. There is also a nice and relaxing swimming pool which unfortunately, due to the sun exposure, was always too cold for our 5 years old(she could stay max 20 min before to start shaking). The workers have been always polite and helpful. The position is fantastic: walking distance from most of the attractions in Chang Mai like the Saturday/Sunday market and some temples. The real problem of the hotel are the not many services available: the bar close at 15,breakfast start too late for anyone need an early start(manage to have it only once on 3 nights) and the swimming pool closed at 20( coming back at the hotel at the end of the day would be nice to stay longer,as many others hotels do). Overall has been a nice stay, but could have been definitely better.
