A lovely, cosy hotel with a beautiful pub downstairs. Very close to the city, but not so close that it’s noisy. The staff were lovely from the moment we walked in, especially the lady who was tidying up the pub in the morning. The bathroom was spotless and the shower was powerful. It was quiet, which was pleasantly surprising due to the Miners’ Gala. It was very warm in the room, but that obviously isn’t the fault of the hotel.
A really lovely welcoming boozah! A warren of rooms with beautiful decor and real coal fires 🔥. Etched glass screens, cosy corners. Great selection of decently priced beers, friendly and welcoming service from the landlord (who, we were told, has run this place for 50 years!) Finally, what a lovely friendly group of locals...really made me and my daughter welcome. We only popped in for a quick drink but stayed longer, could've stayed all evening. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town.
Pictures are misleading. Very ordinary pub with no food or breakfast offered. Parking was fine and the room was clean, but the whole place feels dated. Overall, too expensive for what you get.
