The hotel staff creates a family atmosphere. The rooms are clean, the food delicious and varied. There's live entertainment every evening. For those looking for sports, there's a pool table and table tennis. You can also book excursions at the hotel; it's worth negotiating the price. Any problems can be resolved immediately. The beach is right next to the hotel. The pool is regularly cleaned. Highly recommended for a vacation in the Dominican Republic.
We had a rough start: the first room they gave us was already occupied. The lobby is far, there are no elevators, and after a long flight, I just wanted help nearby. Thankfully, a kind cleaning lady helped us, and after a few room changes (one with a leak), we finally got a decent room. The bar was another letdown. Most of the alcohol is low quality, in plastic bottles, and only two “premium” options cost extra. I didn’t expect luxury, but I did expect decent service. Many staff members were cold, avoided eye contact, and didn’t even return greetings. It wasn’t just me others noticed it too. The resort is huge, so expect long walks between your room, the pool, and the restaurants. Beach cleaning happens during peak hours, which feels unsafe and poorly planned. On the positive side, housekeeping was great the room was always clean. Buffet food was average with little variety. The à la carte restaurants were better, but service still felt forced. Tipping shouldn’t be the only way to get treated with respect. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel unless service and hospitality improve.
4-star Vik Hotel is actually a very old 3-star resort. Many things need to be repaired or replaced. The beach is the narrowest one, and part of it is collapsing into the ocean. Alcoholic beverages are local, and cocktails are very simple. The food at the buffet is usually good and tasty. The garden is well maintained and blooming. The staff is friendly and hard-working. But the place needs to be seriously renovated. And it's not anywhere near 4-stars.
