Our Derby room was incredibly comfortable, clean, We especially appreciated the comfortable bed and the well-maintained facilities. The breakfast spread was delicious with a good variety, and the staff were always on hand to assist. If you're looking for a comfortable stay in a prime location with a touch of heritage, West Down is an excellent choice

We had candle light dinner at west downs heritage resort. The experience was lit. From the moment we entered the restaurant they made us feel special. Food was good, service was exceptional from Richard. Definitely recommend.

Staying at this heritage hotel was more about surviving the charm than enjoying it. Yes, it's 150 years old—and it feels like it, in both good and bad ways. While the architecture has vintage appeal, the lack of basic amenities really lets the place down. Power supply was unreliable and inconsistent. For a premium-priced property, you'd expect at least stable electricity. Hot water was only available during a very limited time window, which is incredibly inconvenient, especially for travelers on flexible schedules. Rooms had no proper ventilation, making them stuffy and uncomfortable—especially during warmer weather. And to top it off, it's far too expensive for what it offers. You're essentially paying for the history, not the hospitality. The biggest letdown of our stay was the front desk staff. From the moment we arrived, they were dismissive, unhelpful, and surprisingly arrogant. Basic questions were met with eye-rolls or curt responses, and any request felt like we were asking for a favor instead of receiving service we paid for. Hospitality starts at the front desk, and sadly, this place completely missed the mark. No warmth, no courtesy, just attitude. A beautiful property can’t make up for bad service. Would not recommend unless there’s a serious change in staff training—or staff altogether. Unless major upgrades are made, this place is more suited for a quick photo op than an actual stay.
