VR Hamilton

The rooms & bathrooms are huge. The place was obviously grand in the past & it's still nice, but is now in need of some loving. The location is great, very central, with many food options nearby. However, there are also a few discos nearby, so there is some noise. The carpark is $20, however it's locked from 10pm till 7:30am, so if you need your car between these times, you'll need to just park on the street. Bed & shower were nice & it's good value for sure.

We chose this hotel because it was affordable and in a great location so we decided to give it a try. The hotel definitely feels dated and could use some refurbishment—it seems like it hasn’t been updated in decades. That said, check-in was easy and smooth. Our room, including the bathroom, was very spacious with high ceilings. The air conditioning worked well, and it was nice to have the option to open the windows. There was a fridge in the room, but no microwave (I didn't check this in the the room description online). We didn’t end up using the car park since street parking was free over the Easter weekend. Room service was friendly and helpful, though we felt some reception staff seemed a little disinterested as we passed by, a smile would make all the difference. On a positive note, the best part was being able to walk straight out onto Hamilton’s main street—super convenient. Our expectations were low but for the price, the hotel was more than good enough. This hotel brought great disappointment. The room held old furniture and a majority of it was broken . The bathroom had a broken shower . The door being broken and shower itself. The bed we believe had bed bugs as my partner was itchy receiving bites. There are now bedbugs at my apartment which we believe was from this hotel. We don't recommend this hotel.
