VR Queen Street Hotel & Suites

Great hotel. Excellent service. Very clean. We had a king room with full kitchen. Ensuite and room were “accessible “, although that’s not why we booked it. Good sized room. Nice modern bathroom and full kitchen. We stayed 7 nights. Internet was available, but slow. All service staff, and most of the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Public areas kept very clean. Lots of places to eat near by. Bit of a jaunt coming back from downtown, as the last part of the walk is very steep uphill. Woolworths is downtown, so you would have to pack your groceries up the hill. There is a nice wee market across the street from the hotel, that carried most necessities. Walkable to the domain, Winter garden, museum and downtown. Was a bit uncomfortable that the hotel took a copy of my ID and credit card at check in. We stayed at 7 different hotels on the North Island, and this hotel was the only one that did that.

Arrival & check in were fine. The room was well appointed. The bed was not good on the first night, my wife & I kept rolling together into the middle of the bed. We went to reception in the morning & told them about our issues. They immediately moved us to a different room. Much much better bed. We had a meal at the restaurant which was amazing.

Considering the price point I was very impressed with VR on Queen. I travel for work and have stayed at nearby hotels at a similar value that did not compare. Rooms were very clean. Simple but had microwave, toaster, kettle, dishes and cutlery. Staff were very welcoming on arrival and during stay. Building was better maintained than others in the area. I will 100% be booking this hotel again.
