Waldhotel Davos

Waldhotel Davos is a refined wellness retreat perched above Davos Platz, housed in a historic former sanatorium once frequented by literary figures. Everything is fine. I had a good swim in the basin, plus the sauna. With regards, Arpad, a Thomas Mann fan.

This is a hotel with a long history, and it shows. It is fascinating to contemplate that Thomas Mann might have drawn inspiration for the Zauberberg by staying at the former Waldsanatorium. The house also exhibits these classic old hotel vibes I quite like. On the other hand you have to be aware of certain quirks, like many stairs and old lifts or slightly worn rooms and corridors. The view of the valley was great and it was so quiet at night. On the other hand you are a little out of the way. Everybody working there was very friendly and warm and we really liked the entertainer at the bar on Friday night, he was so enthusiastic! Dinner at the restaurant was outstanding, much better than expected. The spa and wellness section is nice enough, if a little small. My only quibble is that the water in the pool really was too cold which is a tad unfortunate as I didn’t feel like using it a second time.
